Car transport to Mexico

Mexico shares a land border, so the car is driven across. The distance is the easy part; the customs filing, the import requirements and the carriers who actually hold cross-border authority are what decide whether it goes smoothly.

Where cars cross into Mexico

Trucks hand off at Nuevo Laredo, Ciudad Juárez and Tijuana. Temporary and permanent import are completely different procedures with different paperwork, and the permanent one restricts which model years may enter at all. Decide which you are doing before you book the transport.

Mexico car shipping FAQ

How much does it cost to transport a car to Mexico?+

Mexico shares a land border, so the car is driven across rather than shipped. Price is the road distance plus the customs work, and the second part is what people underestimate: a customs broker, the paperwork for the vehicle, and any duty or import fee the country charges.

What paperwork does a car need?+

The title, a bill of sale, proof of ownership and an export filing on the US side before the truck reaches the border. Mexico has its own import requirements on top, and a vehicle that does not meet them can be refused at the crossing. Do this before you book, not after.

Which companies can ship my car to Mexico?+

Carriers with cross-border authority, which is a much smaller group than the national list. Not every company that will quote you the mileage actually holds it. Ask specifically, and ask who is filing the export paperwork.
